“Here we are talking about a decentralization process in Latin America that has been going on for some time and that we have taken a step here in Venezuela. Beyond that and we raise, the government here, the local government, the local self-government is from the smallest community to the highest pyramid, we invest the power pyramid.”

This said Andy Hernández, economist, member of the Commune 5 de Marzo and member of the Commune Union, in special interview with TeleSUR.
Today Venezuela held a communal electoral process involving more than 4,500 electoral circuits, representing more than 3,600 municipalities registered in the country.
About it, Hernández points out that this model, the communal electoral process, involves several stages: an assembly to present priority projects in each communal council. A second assembly to establish, and then a third larger assembly to prioritize projects at the communal level.
In this regard, Hernández explained teleSUR that this process is not only about voting, but active participation, but of the commune itself, that they are “all the inhabitants, all the families who have the right to participate actively.”
The deputy argues that that this model contrasts with traditional representative democracy because “we are talking about a direct participation of the citizen, and today that the world and, Latin America is so blurred, where the exercise of democracy passes by tumbar presidents, parliamentary coups, coups d’états.”
In addition, Hernandez highlights the importance of involving young people in this process and working with the younger ones from the community, because according to Hernandez already a 15-year-old is fully aware of what his commune space needs.
